Approaching the City

Yesterday I went to the Parks and Recreation Department at the Santo Center on Columbus after Gary did some preliminary research into who to approach. I entered with a sense of dread, thinking this meeting and the work thereafter would be a damper on my day. However, I learned the city cares not about our message and only about logistics...my kind of people.

The next step is to write a detailed report of the event in regards to the logistics of SOSA. The report will detail what we need in order to host SOSA at Hawthorne Park. This includes electricity, space, layout, sound amplification, and a few other minor aspects.

It turns out there are no official permits for events, only a cost analysis by the city which is estimated to be under $500 for most events. However, there are noise permits which SOSA will need to obtain for the events. For serving food we will need to talk with the Jackson County Health Department to see what must be done in order to meet health guidelines. Vendors serving food will need to show proof of compliance as well as present a business license from the city.

This means up-coming tasks are:

  1. Create report detailing the logistics of this event for a cost analysis by the city.
  2. Talk to Parks & Rec about noise permits after receiving the SOSA Report.
  3. Talk to the Jackson County Health Department about serving food at the event.
  4. Receive approval from the city for SOSA.
  5. Begin inviting guests, speakers, entertainers, vendors, and volunteers to participate in this event.
With the process now started you can find periodic updates from the SOSA team here on this blog.

Happy world changing!
